Public parks have long been areas of civic engagement, and Belle Isle is no different. While some areas of the island (like the yacht club) are private, most spaces are open to everyone and many areas can be reserved by groups for events. Many kids groups come to the island for learning experiences and sports activities throughout the year. There are also reservable places like the music shell that can be reserved for concerts and other community events. Volunteer opportunities are also a possibility for organizations, for example cleaning up the park areas.
